MASKS FESTIVAL

Burkina Faso

Departure: Ouagadougou 20/3/2008 • Arrival: Ouagadougou 3/4/2008

Category: Special Trip

• 15 days in Burkina Faso
• overnights in hotels and camps

This trip will give the opportunity to explore the nature of the African mask first hand, in particular at the huge festival which takes place in Nunuma country every two years in March

While this expedition focuses predominantly on masks, the trip will cover a good deal of Burkina Faso and, travelling through the different regions, special attention will be put to the most traditional ethnic peoples who live there:

- The Nunuma, who belong to the Gurunsi tribe.
- The nomads of the north eastern regions with their animal markets and their pre-Islamic tribes.
- The Konkomba, who guard the precious remains of ancient civilizations: stone age drawings, ancient kilns, tombs.
- The Lobi, almost hidden in the shadows of their fortified homes: artists of wood and music.
- Examples of Sudanese architecture, built of earth and clay with light, clean lines.
- The masks, of course, and the pleasure of being able to take part to some real, authentic festivals. You will experience Africa at its most vibrant and celebrating life!
