A wonderful experience: in the middle of a landscape dominated by uniformity, where the individuality vanishes in a space without limits, the Wodaabe or Peul Bororo celebrate with unique dances the male beauty: the Gerewol.

The individual and ethnic identities are displayed in a phantasmagoric show of colours, shapes, drawings, facial paints, costumes and ornaments. A continuous of dances that go on for many days and nights... Around the festival, graze herds of Brahma cows, the local cows with enormous horns in the shape of a lyre.

Every year the Bororo drive their herds to the salt plains: thousands of animals are gathered together and hundreds of families meet up to tell the latest news, to prepare their marriages and to do business.

In the evening the young men, dressed in traditional embroidered costumes and incredible white make-up, dance with seductive movements: this is the great festival of the Gerewol and it is up to the women to choose the most handsome men for their lovers.

The tam-tam, often nothing more than a simple frame bound in goatskin, relentlessly follow the melancholy songs of the desert...
