Overnights

TransAfrica always chooses the best hotels available. In the big cities such as Lome, Accra, Bamako, Bissau or Ouagadougou, where a wide range of hotels is available, TransAfrica chooses the ones providing the highest quality of standards. In smaller towns or in rural areas, we always pick the best hotels available (but sometimes there is only one). Anyhow, they are generally clean, with a private bathroom and a fan in the rooms, and sometimes even air conditioning and a swimming pool. Breakfast and dinner are served at the restaurant of the hotel.

In West Africa sometimes you have to adapt to the situation. It happens that we have to spend the night in a bush camp, under a tent, as the best if not the only way to spend the night. It is an opportunity to live the unforgettable experience of admiring a starry sky after an evening around a campfire listening to ancient stories, enjoying a traditional dance or simply the silence of the night.

Camping

When camping, TransAfrica tour leaders choose the best places to stay: hygienic, safe, with a nice scenery and paying a great attention to the people and their environment. We will reach the location chosen at a reasonable time to put up the camp so the travellers will have enough time to rest and discuss about their emotions of the day, while a professional cook will already have started to prepare a fine dinner.

TransAfrica provides tents and camping facilities as:

  • Tropical igloo type of tents, large enough to host two people with their luggage and very easy to set up and take down.
  • Mattresses, one for each guest, quite comfortable and made of foam.
  • Table and chairs.
  • When possible, camp toilet and a shower to get refreshed before having a pleasant dinner.

The igloo tents are very easy to settle and the help of all the participants is appreciated. Travellers should bring only a sleeping bag/blanket according with the climate and the destination: cool from May to August and sometimes in December-January, cold in the desert from November to February.

TransAfrica professional cooks serve the breakfast, a rich picnic lunch and a delicious dinner.
