TransAfrica is based in Lome (Togo), Aburi (Accra, Ghana) and Bamako (Mali). We also have offices in Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger and Mauritania. More than twenty years of experience in Africa, of Sahara crossings and ethno-cultural expeditions, have afforded us a vast and comprehensive knowledge of the region. Over the years, we have established warm and friendly relations with traditional chiefs, priests and ethnic groups and our long-standing reputation allows us to travel freely and easily through virtually undiscovered territory, to even the most remote villages.
Expeditions are our specialty and the passion for discovery is not only a quality of Alberto Nicheli and Roberto Cerea, the two main tour leaders, but of all the TransAfrica staff. The places that feature on our itineraries are especially chosen to ensure that your experience with us takes you straight to the heart of authentic Africa: traditional festivals, tribal customs, initiation rites, markets, architecture, masks, the Saharan caravan routes, stone age rock engravings, forgotten oases, archaeological sites – we touch on all of these by way of remote routes and tracks that are still largely unexplored today.
As a direct result of both our logistical/technical experience and the privileged relationships we enjoy with the peoples who inhabit the region, our services are often enlisted by field groups researching the area. To date, we have worked with Discovery Channel, National Geographic, National Public Radio (USA), Indigo Films (USA), RAI (National Italian Television) and Canale 5 (an Independent Italian TV network), assisting with their production of special reports and documentaries in the region.
